Military BET 1 FEB 1916 AND 18 FEB 1919 Canadian Expeditionary Forces -177th Battalion, 1st Central Ontario Regiment - Armorer
Little Howard was living with his father at his grandparents' house in April 1901. It was during this time that Howard became close to his Auntie Annie Belle, who was also living with her parents. His Auntie became a sort of surrogate parentto him by taking over the mothering role upon his own mother's premature death. She was later listed as his next of kin, even while his own father was alive. As a young man, Howard felt the tug of duty calling him and enlisted with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces during WWI. On 1 February 1916, Howard was sworn in at Waubaushene. When he reported to Midland for his physical examination, 20-yearold Howard was noted as being 5'6" and weighing 145 pounds with a darkcomplexion, grey eyes, and dark brown hair. He reported his religion as being Methodist and his occupation as laborer. Private ARBOUR then became an armorer in the 177th Battalion, 1st Central Ontario Regiment, serving in England and France. On 27 August 1918, Lance Corporal ARBOUR waswounded in action when he was shot in his right forearm. He recovered completely from his injury and returned to service with his unit. Forhis trouble, Howard earned a Meritorious Medal and was leftwith only asmall scar. Howard was summarilydischarged upon demobilization at the end of the war. On 18 February 1919, he received his last pay chit and returned to his Waubaushene home. Howard was also an accomplished violinist. He even played with a group on the radio called "The ... Harvesters." Howard married Beryl BREGG, but it is unknown if they had any children.William a épousé Beryl Beatrice BREGG en 1923 à Ontario,,,,,.
