    When Emil was an infant, a local newspaper published that he was the largest child in North America. Reportedly it was not because he was fat but because he was stocky and barrel-chested.

    Emil and Cecilia had ten children. All of them were born in the United States, save Victor, who was born in Ontario and held dual citizenship.Emil and Cecilia eventually became naturalized United States Citizens.At some point, Emil was also attached to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as a translator. Through this connection, Emil met Gilbert BOYCE, who eventually married Emil's sister Lucy. According to his daughter Linda, Emil was the great family storyteller. He kept the past alive foreveryone.

    In 1940, Emil reported that he had earned $1,400 in 1939. According to the Census of that year, Emil was born in New York state.

    Upon entering the US at Detroit, MI, on 16 Dec 1941, he reported himself as 5'10" with a dark complexion, dark brown hair, and brown eyes, as well as having a scar on the index finger of his left hand. He had previously been in MI from May 1928 to Dec 1938. He also reported his birthdate as 26 Mar 1911. He had $20 in his pocket.

    Apparently, Emil became a citizen after Dec 1941, as he still held a British passport at that time.

    According to his Naturalization papers, Emil was born on 26 Mar 1911.

    26 March 1908 -- Born in Brennan Harbour, Ontario, Emil Anthony ARBOUR was the 3rd of 6 children of lumberjack Joseph-William-Edward ARBOUR and his 3rd wife Marie-Clara-"Florence" GUERTIN. When Emil was an infant,a local newspaper publishedthat hewas the largest child in North America. Reportedly it was not because he was fat but because he was stocky and barrel-chested. In about 1933, Emil married 17-year old Cecilia Lucy GUERTIN at Old City Hall in Detroit, MI. According toagranddaughter,their marriage was revalidated in the Catholic Church during the late 1930s or early 1940s. Emil and Cecilia had 10 children, 3 daughters and 7sons. All of them were born in the United States, save Victor, who wasborn in Ontario and held dual citizenship.     According to family story . . . During the Vietnam War, Vic tried to enlist in the United States Military, only to initially be denied becauseof his Canadian Citizenship. Somehow Vic did eventuallyserve two toursof duty in Vietnam. The second wastoprotect his brother from having to serve.

The accidenthappened in White Lake Township, MI, on Bogie Lake Rd atthe Lakeland High School curve. He died atthe ageof 36. He was on his way home from work and was involved in an accident with a meat truck. His injuries were numerous and he died seven weeks later at Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in Pontiac, MI. He and his wife Sheila met in the unemployment lineatMichigan Employment Security Commission in Pontiac. He went to school at Ferris State in Big Rapids, MI. Phillip was born on 24 February 1952, the son of Emil A. & Cecilia (Guertin) Arbour in Walled Lake, MI. He graduated from Walled Lake High School and served his country in the Army. On 14 June 1980, he married Patricia Petsch in Fowlerville, MI. He had worked at Kelsey-Hayes in Howell in quality control. For the past 20 years, he has resided in Wichita and worked in the airplane industry.Peter attended St Cecilia Church and was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. In 1988, he married the former Mary Kathryn "Kathy" Watters who survives along with her children: Shawn Rouleau of Alpena and Brenna (Ryan) Bolton of Oak Park, MI, special niece/daughter: Sabrina (Kraig) Klimzack of Alpena; 10 grandchildren; three sisters: Cynthiaand Elsie Arbour both of Atlanta, MI, Linda (Hon. William) Caprathe of Bay City; his brother, Phillip (Patti) Arbour of Perry, MI; 32 nieces and nephews and 36 grand/great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, hewas predeceased by his five brothers: Ralph, William, Kent, Gerald, and Victor Arbour, and his grandson Peter Rouleau. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, 24 October 2009, at 11:00 am in the Church of St Boniface with Rev. Dale A. Orlik presiding. Visiting hours with the family will be Friday 23 October 2009, from 4:00 until 8:00 pm inthe W.A. Trahan Funeral Chapel and The Vigil Prayer Service will be held Friday at 7:00 pm in the Trahan Chapel. Peter will lie instate at the church on Saturday from 10 am until time of services.     Those who you have left behind will forever remember your gentle ways and joyful smile. You always had a kind word and a twinkle in your eye. Your positive attitude was infectious. I can't ever remember a time when you grew impatient or irritated with anyone. As a child, some of my fondest memories are the times that we spent together at grandma's houseand all around Rush Lake. You always had time for me, made the best grilled cheese sandwiches, took me to the movie, drove me all over the place while telling me funny stories about the locals and your childhood.You made me watch The 6 Million Dollar Man and Lawrence Welk. You always saw the good in others and made everyone around you feel special. I also remember how much you loved andadmired my dad, you told me that he was always like a father to you. I wish I could have spent more time with you as an adult.
