The Day (CT) -- Sunday 06 May 2012 Norwich -- Carolyn (Vacca) Arbour Pont, 85, of 163 Briar Lane, Norwich, passed away Saturday, 28 April 2012, at The William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich. Carolyn was born on 8 Aug1926, in Westerly, the daughter of Michael and Arlean (Whalen) Vacca. Carolyn was a long time resident of Stonington. She is survived by her children, Michael Arbour of Norwich, Francine (Arbour) Allard and her husband, Mark, of Gales Ferry, Francis Arbour Jr. of Murphy, OR, and Arthur Arbour and his wife, Jennifer, of Dubois, PA. She has six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurence H. Pont Sr., who died on 19 Jan 2003. A private memorial service will beheld at the convenience of the family. Lawrence H. Pont Sr. 76, of Somersett Drive Pawcatuck, died Sunday Jan. 19th at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born in Stonington July 8, 1926 son of the late Henry and Mary DeBragga Pont. He was a Navy veteran of W.W. II. He had been employed as a Machinest beginning at the Atwood Machine Co, and working at the Plax Company and later Monsanto retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, where he was a familiar figure peeling potatoes for the Fish & Chip dinners and making chowder.He was a former member of the Wequetequock Fire Department, He married the former Carolyn Vacca Arbour on June 17, 1975 in Stonington, she survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by l daughter Susan Lord of Mystic, 2 sons: Lawrence H. Pont Jr of Stonington and Donne Pont of Pawcatuck. 4 step children, Michael R. Arbour of Norwich, Francine Allard of Gales Ferry, Francis Arbour Jr of Oregon, and Arthur J. Arbour of Pennsylvania. 10 Grandchildren, and 2 Great Grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a brother Francis J. Pontand a sister Priscilla Cale . The funeral will be held at the Mystic Funeral Home Route l Mystic on Thursday at 10:00AM. Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary Cemetery Stonington. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral homeon Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9PM.
