Marion Arbour Seghers, a retired teacher, died Tuesday of congestive heart failure at Northshore Regional Hospital. She was 83. Mrs. Seghers was born in Flatbush, NY, and lived in New Orleans before moving to Slidell. She graduated from Ursuline College. She was a teacher at St Francis Cabrini Elementary School for 23 years. She also was Sunday school coordinator for St Francis Cabrini and was awarded the St Louis Medallion for her services there.

As an accomplished author, Joan was a recipient of the prestigiousThomas Wolfe Award for fiction for her story in Wide Awake in the Pelican State: Stories by Contemporary Louisiana Writers, given annually for short stories. She had recently completed her first novel, Phoebe's Chances. In addition to her Louisiana-rooted inspiration and highest regard for her craft, her stories demonstrated a deep humanity and softly defined humility. Joan slipped away, with apologies, on Tuesday 16 April 16 2013, in Charleston, South Carolina. Born on 10 January 1949, in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the beloved daughter of Mrs. Edgar F.
