- Event: Death Location Kankakee State Hospital in Kankakee, Kankakee County, Illinois, USA
During his adult life, William's age became something of a mystery. He could have been born in 1866, in Apr 1877, in 1879, or in 1890 -- or atany time in between.[1920Census,1900Census,1930Census,DeathCert] However, his baptismal information seemsto correct all of this.
In 1920, William's parents' birth places were considered as unknown.[1920Census] In 1930, William's parents were reported as both born in Illinois.[1930Census] At the time of his death in 1941, his parents' birth places were again reported as unknown.[DeathCert] It seems likely that unknown is the correct answer.
William appears to have never married, as all sources agree on this. Atthe time of his death, the information on his death certifcate was supplied by his records from the State Hospital, at which hehad been a resident for 27 years, 10 months, and 1day (which converts to 11 Oct 1913). Apparently, upon his admission, nothing was known of him regarding his parents names or origins. Seemingly, William was in no position to offer any information about his history, as not even his birth date wasrecorded.[DeathCert]
What a sad and lonely life this man must have led, as there were no family or friends present even at his death.

--> Now that we have reconciled William with the young man known as Joseph-Octave, his story appears to be complete. We have birth, death, andburial information for him. Sometime as a young man, "William" became too much for his family to handle --either that or he simply walked away from them, willingly or unknowingly. He was then institutionalized at the State Hospital, where he spent the rest of his days.
