ARBOUR, JOHN J. (JACK): a resident of Dexter, educator, and farmer for nearly 50 years, died on 1 August 2004. He was born 18 May 1923, in Detroit to Philip and Ann (Oakes) Arbour. Jack began his service to DexterCommunity Schools as principal of Wylie Middle School from 1967 to 1978. Children loved learning with "Doc" Arbour in the additional 15 yearshe spent in the classroom. Jack was a veteran of WWII serving in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. Jack is survived by his companion, SusanConley Weeks; four sons; four daughters; fifteen grandchildren; and five great grandchildren; as wellas a twin sister, Marie MacBride (James)of Morgantown, WV; a niece Anne (Paul) Kritschgau and one grandnephew;cousins, Ann and Mary Oakes of Sarnia,Ontario. His children: Philip (Lori) and Elaine (Wayne) Hartman of Dexter, Edward (Julie) of Ypsilanti, Daniel (Vicki) of Ann Arbor, Patricia (Scott) Aeschliman of Gregory, Catherine (Harry) Johnson of Whitmore Lake, Robert (Julia) of Dexter,and Margaret (Robert) Roseneau of Canton. Visitation will be held at the Hosmer-Muelhig Funeral Chapel, Dexter on Wednesday, 4 Aug, from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 with a scripture service at 7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, 5 Aug, at St Joseph Catholic Church at 11 am with visitation at the church from 10 to 11. Interment will take place at Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in Sarnia, Ontario,at a later date. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

18 May 1923 -- Born in Detroit, Michigan, John Joseph ARBOUR was one ofa set of fraternal twins born to lumber inspector, bookkeeper, wholesale drug salesman, and eventual superintendant with WarnerLambert Corporation Joseph-Emery-"Philias"ARBOUR and his wife Ann Sarah OAKES. Although born in Detroit, Jack and his family had moved to Saint Clair Shores, MI, by 1930. During WWII, Jack served asa paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne. Upon close of the war, Jack married but all details of his wife, including her name, are unknown. What is known is that they had 8 children born between 1947 and1960, 4 daughters and 4 sons. During this phase of his life, Jack became a school teacher and moved his family to Dexter, MI. Jack began his serviceto Dexter Community Schools in Dexter, MI, as principal of Wylie Middle School from 1967 to 1978. Children loved learning with "Doc" Arbour in the additional 15 years he spent in the classroom. Sometime after 1960, Jack'swife died or they separated,as there was no mention of her at the time of his father's death. Jack passed away in Michigan at the age of 81 on 01 August 2004. He was buried in Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Sarnia, Ontario. Jack can claim at least 8 grandchildren.
