She grew up on her family's farm, learning what it meant to be a part ofa big family. On 03 Aug 1909, Vercheres would have the opportunity to have her own large family when she wed the widower Telesphore THOUIN. She instantly became step-mother to his 8 surviving children, who were between the ages of 5 and 17. It seems as though Vercheresdelayed her own child-bearing until 1913, when the first of her 5 children were born through 1920. After their wedding, Vercheres and Telesphore lived in the United States from 1911 to 1916. On 09 May 1911, Vercheres, Telesphore, and kids passed through Newport,VT, on their way to Leeds, MA.
