Hecrosses the Atlantic ocean when no more than an infant, grows up in Qu?bec City and, at the age of about ten, moves to Sillery.Amerindians were surely not strangers to him in Qu?bec and Sillery, so it should surpriseno one that he marry a so-called"Sauvagesse."According to the Association des familles Pelletier, early in 1659, Fran?ois accompanies his brother-in-law, No?l J?r?mie-dit-Montagne, on a voyage to the vast "Domaine du Roy", a trade area encompassing the great Saguenay-Lac St-Jeanarea.We don't know exactly how long Francois stays there, or his motivation for going there in the first place.J?r?mie was authorized to trade inthe Domaine, but was Fran?ois? Perhaps he was abusing his brother-in-law's position to trade illicitlywith the Indians; perhaps he sought no more than adventure. We can only guess.Some time before the autumn of 1659, Fran?ois has returned to Qu?bec; the Journal des J?suites says that on November21, Fran?ois accompanies the Jesuit Albanel to Tadoussac, stating that he is not at their expense, but is under their name.Here again we are unsure of Fran?ois' motivations. (We might wonder how Fran?ois was able tomove onso quickly afterthe death of his first bride.)They settle in Sillery, first on the land of his father, and later on their own property,granted Fran?oisby the Jesuits in 1667......In 1669 Fran?ois leases his property to Denis Ruette and heand his family head to Sorel, where he has apparently received a concession from Pierre Saurel; their relationship dates to at least 1666 when Saurel led a group of some three hundred men West to avenge the Iroquois massacre of two Frenchmen and to rescue four otherscaptured by the Iroquois.On October 22, 1675, Fran?ois purchases an estate from Philippe Gauthier, sieur deComporte; the frontage runs one "demi-lieue" (1.5 miles) along the St-Lawrence River across from Sorel between the Autray and Berthier estates,and it extendsinland one "lieue"(3 miles).Fran?ois and Marguerite now merit the titles "sieur" and "seigneuresse", not to denote their nobility, but to reflect the esteem oftheir peers.Fran?ois renames his land "Antaya," discontinuing "Dorvilliers" and "Comporte," names it has borne in the past, but in some laternotarized and baptismal actswe see "Dorvilliers" is sometimes used. Howlittle this aged couple realized last Saturday evening, as they sat smoking their pipes and pleasantly chattingwith a neighbor, about halfpasteight, that this was their last night on earth! That when the morninglight should welcome in the nearSabbath, that they would both be done with all life's wearying cares and trials, and they entered into thenewlife,---and now the end had come.Fiftyseven years they had borne life's burdens together, and now they were together to lay themdown, and, leaning upon each other, hand in hand as it were, walk out into the greatmystery.Sunday morning, about four o'clock, the little house near the south bridge in this city, where this couple lived alone, was discovered in flames. Those first reaching the house burst in the door, but too late---as the whole inside of the dwelling was a mass offlame, and in amoment the floors and roof hadfallen into the cellar. At first no one seemed to think but that the old people were safely outside. But it wasnot long before the dreadful truth that they were buried in theburningruins,settledupon all, and the firemen took immediate action to recover thebodies. They were found side by side in the exact locality of their bed, so the conclusion was soon reached that they were suffocated, and had made no effort to escape. Thebodieswere drawn from the ruins, a disfigured and sickening sight.Coroner Hollister was immediately notified, a jury subpoenaed, and a verdict rendered at 2 o'clock Sunday that the death of the aged people was caused by suffocation.Mr. and Mrs.Purdywere born in Canada, were aged seventy-eight and seventy-nineyears, the wifebeing one year the younger. They had ten children, three living in Minnesota---two daughters, Mrs. John Eddy and Mrs. Lafayette Pierce,living about three miles this side of Lyle, and a daughter residing inAustin, Mrs. Alfred Church.Mrs. Thomas Varco, of the Varco station, was a sister of Mrs. Purdy. From Denis ARBOUR via email on 07 May 2008: There is something you should know: St-Jean-de-Dieu Hospital was a mental institute, an asylum. Narcisse probably suffered from some mental disorder. If I am not mistaken, the hospital had it's owncemetery. I'm possibly wrong but I think I remember seeing a documentary on TV about this hospital. To my recollection, at some point in time, unexplained events occured in the hospital, like unexplained deaths and patients mysteriously disapearing and soon... and the hospital had been hiding the truth about it. Is this the reason why an "anatomy inspector" ordered a priest to enter a death record?

de François Veau le premier oncle paternel du dit François Hermange et le
second oncle du coté maternel à cause de Françoise Gargnard sa femme passée
devant Jardin notaire roial au Maine en date du 23 février 1766 dûment
légalisé par le Sieur Thebaudin seigneur de la Rozette lieutenant
particulier en la sénéchaussée du Maine et siége provincial du Mans par
laquelle ils constituent Jean Marie Antoine Magnier dmt Beulves hameau de
cette paroisse pour leur procureur général et spécial à l'effet de consentir
pour eux et en leur dit noms au mariage du dit François Hermange leur neuveu
cette procuration adressée au dit Sieur curé d'Hardinghen, aussi que le
certificat du Sieur Blanche prêtre vicaire de Crissé qui en a publié les
bans et celui du Sieur Chenais curé de Rouessé de la même province du Maine
dûment légalisé par lesquels il constate que le dit François Hermange n'est
lié d'aucun empêchement qui puisse arrêter son mariage. Je soussigné prêtre
curé de Fiennes ai pris d'eux la promesse et le consentement de mariage,
leur ai donné la bénédiction nuptiale fait les cérémonies accoutumées en
présence du dit Jean Marie Antoine Magnier et Pierre et Pierre Bonvarlet
amis de l'épouse avec nous soussignés et Jean Jacques Guislain père de
l'épouse qui a fait sa marque et François Cousin avec nous soussigné,
l'époux a fait sa marque et l'épouse a signé avec nous."
